TERELEPAR is an inter-religious organization formed by the Religious Leaders of Teso from all denominations to address issues of Peace, Reconciliation and Development. TERELEPAR comprises of the Uganda Catholic Church, the Province of Church of Uganda (Anglican), the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, the Union of the Seventh day Adventist Church, the Baptist Union of Uganda, the Uganda Orthodox Church, and the Pentecostal Churches in Teso sub-region. With support from the Democratic Governance Facility (DGF) and Trocaire, TERELEPAR is implementing a three year project on “Improving access to land justice and promoting women empowerment in Teso sub region”.

TERELEPAR is seeking for a qualified Ugandan to fill the following vacant positions.

The project officer will report to the program supports manager. The Project Officer will be responsible for planning and implementing peace project activities and writing reports according to the donor and organizational standards. S/He provides technical support to the project beneficiaries, community activists on both gender and land justice in the project target communities within Teso.

Responsibilities               

  • Conduct community mobilization for field engagement
  • Collect and enter data in the data base
  • Timely Report writing to meet deadlines
  • Work closely with the legal officers to train targeted women and men on SASA Faith and ADR methodologies
  • Provide weekly and monthly mentorships for trained community activists, religious leaders’ community activists.
  • Support trained clan and religious leaders in conducting community land dispute mediations
  • Identify community needs and documents for resource mobilization
  • Participate in resource mobilization through proposal writing.
  • Upholding and adherence to the safeguarding policy is mandatory.
  • Prepare issue papers for advocacy at community, district and regional levels.

Desired qualification

  • A bachelor degree in development studies, social works and social sciences, democracy and development studies, human rights and governance and gender studies, adult education, public administration from a recognized University.
  • A post graduate diploma in project planning and management or monitoring and evaluation is an added advantage
  • A valid riding permit is a must.
  • A willingness to work in the rural areas with the faith communities
  • Must be willing to work with various religious leaders
  • A minimum of four years’ experience in field related work with NGOs in related projects on land and gender.
  • Knowledge in SASA Faith and ADR methodologies is desired
  • Knowledge in proposal and report writing is a must.
  • Computer knowledge is a must.
  • Knowledge of the local languages (Kumam and Ateso) is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing projects on gender and land.

The project assistant will report to the project officer. He/She will support the project officer to directly implement the project in the target communities within Teso.

TERELEPAR intends to implement a project on supporting different sub counties to strengthen their land use, access, and ownership rights through systematic land mapping and documentation as well as acquisition of certificates of customary Ownership (CCO) with funding from DGF.

Purpose and scope of contract:

The objective of the position is to provide technical support in two sub counties in Teso in regards to the implementation of land mapping and documentation and working closely with the area land committee.

Specific tasks of the GIS Technician:

The GIZ-Technician is expected to provide the following results:

Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

  • Development of village Maps indicating land rights and corrido’s on the basis of the data captured by field teams.
  • Handling of all data and data maintenance
  • Assurance of quality and safety back ups
  • Ensure charging of electronic field device
  • Data transfer from field teams via Sub-counties up to District level office work services and administration
  • Support the management of daily office operations relating to project activities
  • Supporting the sub county in planning and organizing events and (ALC) meetings
  • Liaison with all relevant stakeholders of the project
  • Creation and printing of Social Land Rights Documents
  • Compile reports about field work activities and data capture
  • Support ALC in preparation of public notice
  • Uploading of field data
  • Downloading of additional information on the tables (Orthophotos)
  • Display village Maps in respective villages
  • Liaison with awareness raising teams field teams, Sub county and relevant stakeholders
  • Support the SAS in report writing
  • Support SAS in attending to the interested community members on land demarcation related issues
  • Manage the project consumables stock like printing paper, cartridges
  • Respond to phone calls and messages and or forward them relating to the project other duties additional tasks
  • Perform other duties and tasks at the request of management if related to the project
  • Undertake further job training related to his position and duties if required. Special training programs shall be identified and selected jointly with the project team members
  • Train the ALC members on the use of the mapping equipment.

 Desired qualification

  • A bachelor degree in geography, land surveys or any related field from reputable institution.
  • Relevant hands-on experience of a minimum of 3 years in land survey with reputable firm.
  • Knowledge in Alternative Dispute Resolution ADR is added advantage.
